System Requirements

In General

Vertinex-programs are professional software systems granting support to the user to handle different tasks in the Occupational Safety area. 
To make maximum use of the high performance potential, the hardware and network should also be ruggedly and professionally equipped. However, it is usually not necessary to purchase expensive high performance processors. For the efficient usage of the Vertinex software an actual, middle class processor should do. When it comes to immense data volume (of for example 20 000 probands) high value processors should be put in place.
With the following, we suggest some reasonable system prerequisites. Vertinex recommends – to the best of its knowledge – an equipment with which Vertinex software may be implemented at efficient benefit. Minimum requirements are not very helpful here, as the user is per definition entitled to obtain the very best and most efficient software support.
Substance data system requirements: Windows 2003, 2008 server or MacOS-X server 10.5 or higher. Possible application with VM-ware, Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7, MacOS 10.4.11 or higher including MacOS 10.6 (Snow Leopard). LAN: TCP/IP WAN:  Windows-Terminal server, Citrix Metaframe.

System Requirements

Single station system or client processor

CD disk drive or USB-Interface for system installation. Quicktime in actual version. Printer connection either directly or via network.

Server

Fail safe with RAID-System

Recommendation: No other server software than the Vertinex software should run on the server computer – especially no other e-mail or file server service applied.

Back up should be done onto second hard drive (or within RAID system) directly connected to processor – (no network).  To additionally secure the back up file, we suggest ‘save on tape’ anywhere within the network. Parallel operation of a Vertinex client on the server computer only possible with multiple processors.

Network

Should you wish to implement the Vertinex programs within a WAN environment, we suggest Windows-Terminal Server or Citrix-Metaframe technology to ensure a convenient and efficient usage. Our programs are successfully in use in both technology environments. We are also very well capable to implement different devices at various locations into above mentioned environments. However, a trouble free operating network is essential to let our systems securely work. The connection between server and client must not be interrupted, as otherwise the client would be automatically logged off the server to set the license free again for another client (floating license).

4D v11 SQL-Data base

Vertinex software licenses embrace all necessary data base licenses in one. The employed SQL data base with 4D-development environment (4D v11 SQL-data base) offers a maximum level of security to our customers and provide considerable advantages for the every day usage.

The data base provides reliable protection of sensitive data against unauthorized access with an extraordinary access control system. The essential point is here that stored data cannot be read with so called ‘SQL statements’. Program and data base build a compact system. The access is exclusively allowed for users that are properly logged in and holding adequate ownership profiles. IT Service maintenance of the data base is limited down to control of back up and support for software updates.  This is why 4D has given global distinction to the expression ‚Zero Administration’.
Vertinex programs have got an access controlled secure export function for various data. Thus, our customer (indepent from Vertinex) may export all stored data out of the Vertinex software and import them into a succession program. The customer can hereby define any export format (for example XML).

Other enormous advantages:

The integrated back up operation is automatically adjustable. You may arrange frequency and timing of the back up execution. The number of back up sets can also be determined by the user.

Automated restoration after failure:

As a special show stopper, Vertinex offers an automated data restoration (just in case of an improbable incident of a system failure) taken out of the last back up execution with integration of the log file data (transaction-log). All stored data is rapidly put at your disposal again.

Automated execution of updates:

When updating the system, clients are automatically actualized. Clients and server are thus always at the same up-to-date status. Further, the updating routines (for example in case of a modified data base structure) are automatically executed by the system without  interference of the system administration.

System integration:

Without additional effort for the system administration Vertinex programs can be easily integrated into existing system environments.

Floating License

Vertinex program licenses are neither user related nor exclusively biased to a computer.  
More users may be registered to Vertinex software than licenses are available or have been acquired. Vertinex software can be installed onto numerous computers. As you only purchase client licenses for the max. number of all computers registered at the same time on the server, you decrease the volume of your budget expenditure. The user may log into FABIOLA, CLAUDIO or RAMAZZINI from any prepared computer. With each user logging in, one client license is occupied. Should the quota of free licenses be exhausted, Vertinex software will provide a pre-alert.

With a centrally operated server and the networking and linking of locations, licenses can be used to the full extent. Usually, not all sites are working in parallel by fully using up all degrees of capacity so that the free licenses can be really made use of where they are needed.
